Drawing inspiration from literary gems such as Longus’ “Daphnis et Chloé” and Homer’s “Odyssey, ” Chagall’s artistic expression took on diverse forms, ranging from beautifully illustrated books to a monumental mosaic at the Faculty of Law in Nice. Additionally, his creative genius extended to designing sets and costumes for the “Daphnis et Chloé” ballet at the Paris Opera. Curated by renowned experts Anne Dopffer, Head of National Museums of XXth Century of the Alpes-Maritimes, and Jean-Baptiste Delorme, Heritage Curator of the Marc Chagall National Museum, this exhibition offers a fresh perspective on Chagall’s masterful navigation and appropriation of Mediterranean classics. Every print in a limited edition is numbered, usually in pencil or pen at the bottom or top of the print. This number (that looks like a fraction) is called a print run number and it shows the print? The upper number (numerator) will show you when each print was created during the run.
